Airbus Military selects Ratier-Figeac to supply propeller system for A400M

Ratier-Figeac has been selected to develop and produce the propeller system for the Airbus Military A400M airlifter.

The contract with Ratier-Figeac was signed on 24th July 2003 by Francisco Fernández Sáinz, managing director of Airbus Military, and Alain Guinaudeau, president of Ratier-Figeac.

The Ratier-Figeac FH386 propellers will operate at a power rating of over 10 000 shaft horsepower and will allow the aircraft to fly up to a cruise speed of Mach 0.72. The propellers will be 17.5 ft in diameter and use eight composite blades each. With these characteristics, the A400M propellers will be larger and have a higher power rating than any propeller ever produced in the western world.
