Francisco Fernández Sáinz follows Mr. Alberto Fernández, who resigned from the Airbus Military presidency last month. Mr. Fernández Sáinz has also been appointed as a member of the Executive Committee of EADS and will exercise the function of Head of the Military Transport Division and President of EADS-CASA. Francisco Fernández Sáinz will immediately take up his new duties managing the A400M military transport programme. Working for CASA since 1971, he has had a long career in different managerial positions and latterly held the position of Head of Airbus Spain and Member of the Airbus Executive Committee. He has an advanced degree in aeronautical engineering and a Master of Business Administration. Combining the excellent Spanish experience in manufacturing military transport aircraft with the civil expertise of Airbus, development of the A400M programme will take place in Toulouse and Madrid, under Airbus management. During the development phase the "centre of gravity" will be in Toulouse, after which it will gradually move to Spain. The final assembly and the delivery centre for A400M will be at the Seville plant of Military Transport Aircraft Division/EADS CASA. 09

The model had been fitted out with a heavy load comprising a mixture of German military vehicles. To give a sense of proportion to the aircraft, a full-size graphic representation of the A400M fuselage cross section was displayed on the five metre-high back wall of the stand. An audio visual programme showing the A400M being deployed on a typical humanitarian mission made good use of state-of-the-art computer animations to show the aircraft in action. The interactivce presentation from the A400M technical design database was used to demonstrate the aircraft's characteristics to visitors. For the first time a section of the stand was devoted to the customer nations. A colourful display featured eight 1/100th scale models representing the customer's air forces set on a background of their appropriate national flags. Held on Wednesday May 8th, the Airbus Military Press Briefing attracted a large number of journalists and television crews, with over 70 media representatives present. This year the presentation was based upon the operational capacity of the A400M in a simulated disaster scenario transposed on the Mozambique operations of 2001.
