25 November 2000 05 August 2000 24 July 2000 13 July 2000 8 June 2000 24 May 2000 19 May 2000 17 April 2000 30 November 2000 Following a full and thorough evaluation of the engines on offer, Airbus Military Company has today announced that the engine selected for the A400M will be the TP400, to be jointly developed and manufactured by a European consortium. The chosen engine is a ten thousand shaft-horsepower turbo-prop based on proven technology. It combines the military M88 core with three-shaft civil aero engine architecture and fully meets the required specification. Originally faced with a choice of two separate engine proposals from Rolls Royce and Turboprop International, AMC has finally chosen the TP400. This engine is the result of a combined effort by Rolls-Royce, Snecma Moteurs, MTU Aero Engines, FiatAvio, Industria de Turbopropulsores and Techspace Aero. The Turkish aero engine industry will also be invited to participate in the partnership. A joint venture company will be formed to manage the programme. "We are very satisfied with the outcome of what has been a complex and demanding evaluation," said Alain Flourens, President of Airbus Military. "The most thorough investigation of the three possible alternatives has been concluded and the result provides the A400M with the best possible engine both technically and commercially." The TP400 will be the most powerful turbo-prop engine so-far produced in the western world and, combined with the aircraft's aerodynamic qualities, will make the A400M the world's fastest new-generation turbo-prop aircraft. Commitments for 225 A400M military transport aircraft have been received from the eight launch customer nations: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Contract signature is expected within the first half of 2001 leading to first deliveries in 2007. 29 November 2000 Airbus Military will round off a busy communications year with a short advertising campaign. In a dramatic black and white creative style, the ads will be seen this autumn/winter in various trade media titles throughout the launch customer countries. With the message adapted to the appropriate language of the countries' readership, it is also intended as a mark of appreciation to the eight European governments that have publicly committed themselves to acquiring the A400M for their air forces. To view the ads, which are in Adobe Acrobat .pdf format, a file reader freely available from the internet and bundled with many standard pieces of software, simply click on the icons on the map below.
25 November 2000 Airbus Military will be exhibiting at a number of air shows in 2001. The first of these will be the Australian International Air Show at Avalon, February 13th - 18th. This will be the first time that Airbus Military attends an antipodean event. Visitors to the show wishing to know more about the A400M programme will be welcomed on Stand 119, Hall A. 05 August 2000 Following closely on the heels of the Berlin Air Show this year, Farnborough 2000 represented another significant watershed in the history of the A400M programme. On Thursday, July 27th, at a meeting of the Ministers of Defence of the seven participating nations in the A400M programme, a joint declaration was made in which they confirmed their intention to purchase the A400M. (See 27 July 2000 Press Release from Farnborough.) This good news was further enhanced by the announcement that the Duchy of Luxemburg will also purchase one aircraft giving a total commitment for 225 military transports. It is expected that contract signatures with the customer nations will take place in the first half of 2001. This is the first time ever that such a joint decision has been made by European governments for a common equipment acquisition of such high-value, a point which was made at the ministers' press conference by M. Alain Richard, the French Defence Minister. It is also the first time that such a joint, high-level declaration has been made publicly at an airshow. The Airbus Military stand was very busy during the trade days of the show and welcomed a considerable number of official delegations from the world's air forces and governments. The more senior of the visitors included General Johan Hederstdt, Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces and the Baroness Symons, the UK's Minister for Defence Procurement. The UK was the first of the seven partner nations to announce in May this year their commitment to the A400M.
On the stand, the large-screen interactive presentation of the aircraft's design data base attracted great interest and was voted by many to be "the best audio-visual display at the show". 24 July 2000 Airbus Military Company is now exhibiting at Farnborough International 2000. The stand, situated in Hall 2 / B15, will be open to visitors from 24th to 30th July.
Airbus Military welcomes you to visit them at Stand. 13 July 2000 After its highly successful participation at the Berlin Air Show in June this year, Airbus Military will be present at Farnborough International 2000 from July 24th to 30th. Using a similar stand to that at Berlin, the display will include a 1/20 scale model of the A400M, a video showing the overall features and capability of the aircraft and the impressive projection on a big (3.00m x 1.5m) screen of the 3-D digital engineering mock-up using material from the actual aircraft design data base. This powerful system allows simulated loading of a range of cargoes and the design of structure and systems to be revealed. An interactive display unit on the stand will include extensive information on the A400M and its programme as well as a virtual visit of the aircraft and the opportunity to see a short demonstration of a typical mission. The Airbus Military stand will be situated at location B-15 in Hall 2 and a press conference giving a programme up-date will be held on Thursday, July 27th at 12:00hrs in the Hatfield Room of the Farnborough Exhibition Media Centre. 08 June 2000 Airbus Military Company is currently exhibiting at ILA Berlin from 6-12 June 2000. The virtual mock-up used by the company to integrate engineering data is on display providing an opportunity to examine the aircraft's systems and structure.
Airbus Military welcomes you to visit them at Stand 1-03 in Hall 8. 24 May 2000 As one of the partners in Airbus Military, BAE SYSTEMS is actively promoting the A400M in the United Kingdom by means of a sophisticated mobile road-show. Intended to demonstrate the advantages of the A400M and the opportunities that the programme represents to business leaders, aerospace suppliers, sub-contractors and politicians across the country, the road-show is installed in a 12 metre-long articulated lorry which has been specially fitted-out for the task.
Equipped with a state-of-the-art computer graphics system and a comfortable hospitality area, the A400M road-show is capable of demonstrating the whole engineering concept and operational logistic capability of the aircraft. It uses the latest in three-dimensional imagery to present a "virtual" walk-round of the A400M and a visit to the cockpit. Starting with a press preview at Filton the Airbus Military road show has so-far covered 1500 miles and visited seven locations including London, Manchester and Edinburgh since 8th March. Over 600 visitors have seen the display and amongst the personalities that have been welcomed aboard have been Stephen Byers, UK Secretary for Trade and Industry, and several Members of the House of Commons Defence Committee. 19 May 2000 The A400M will feature this summer in an exhibition in Canada. Entitled "A Retrospective on the Future" the exhibition is organised by the Aviation History Department of the National Aviation Museum in Ottawa. The theme, as the somewhat intriguing title implies, is the comparison of early 20th Century visions and expectations of aviation with the reality of its development since the Wright brothers' first controlled, powered flight in 1903. Since the exhibition will also be looking forward to the technological developments in all aspects of aviation, as a state-of-the-art design in military transport aircraft the A400M will be presented via a video and photographic display. The exhibition opens on June 8th. 17 April 2000 Airbus Military will be present at the Berlin Air Show in June this year with a 72 square metre stand situated in Hall 8. The stand will feature a large-scale model of the aircraft, an interactive video-graphic information source and a 4.5 square metre screen on which will be displayed the sophisticated real-time digital engineering mock-up. This display is able to show all aspects of the A400M 's technical design features and operational capability and is, in fact, one of the most sophisticated design tools currently used in aviation engineering.
We will be pleased to welcome visitors to stand 1-03, Hall 8 from 6th to 12th June this year. Airbus Military will have a similar stand at the Farnborough Air Show in July.
